Baked Muscles: Fun and Games in downtown Reedley | Reedley Lifestyle Photographer
I had a great time making pictures with these guys in downtown Reedley next week. For an explanation of what they’re doing, check out their Facebook page. You can see more photos on the Shinn Photo Facebook page, too!
MCC Sale | Fresno Lifestyle Photographer
One of my favorite annual events is the West Coast MCC Relief Sale. It’s an event that raises money for world relief while providing fun activities and traditional Mennonite food. I’ll be honest: aside from interaction with the Mennonite community, the food is my favorite part!
The event is on the campus of Fresno Pacific University, and features an auction, live broom-making demos, and art show (in which I’ve participated for the past few years), and more good, traditional Mennonite food than you can shake a stick at! Liam and I split a particularly marvelous bowl of homemade Huckleberry Ice Cream.
Here’s the Facebook page for the event: West Coast MCC Sale.
Here’s an article about the food on Taste Fresno: Mennonite Munchies.
I’ll post a few pictures here, but if you want to see the rest, you can find them at the Shinn Photo Facebook page!
Anticipation: Reedley Wedding Photographer
I’m really looking forward to Nate and Anne’s wedding this weekend! We’ve had the privilege of photographing both of their families in the past few years, and it’s a real treat to see them uniting to form their own new family.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from their engagement session. Check out our Facebook page at facebook.com/shinnphoto for more!

InkdwithLove Bowtique
Thursday I had the pleasure of shooting with Cari, who’s starting a bow company: InkdwithLove Bowtique. We sat down and talked concepts, and came up with the idea of making images for two markets: bows for little girls and bows for big girls. So we did two sessions. First Lisa made some very sweet images of little girls with great bows (she’ll put up a few on the blog in the next few days). Then Cari, Stacie and I got together for the big girls photo session, which was supposed to be a little more rock ‘n roll. After all, the brand, InkdwithLove, refers to tattoos, and it’s supposed to be a little edgy. I had a great time making these images. Here are a few of my favorite images from the session. Enjoy!
A flying wedding dress!
I love the entrance to the Reedley Mennonite Brethren church. The light coming through those doors is dramatic, and all that drama just made me want to put Kaylie’s wedding dress right in the middle of it. The first problem is that it’s a heavy dress. The other problem is that I wanted the dress RIGHT in the middle of all that light-induced drama. So my ever-willing assistant (Lisa) hauled the dress up a flight of stairs and hung way over a rail at risk of life and limb to give me what my petty, petulant aesthetic demanded. But it wasn’t quite good enough for me. I wanted to drop the dress and watch it flutter serenely to earth. But that’s where my ever-willing assistant drew the line: we would NOT, she firmly told me, be dropping anyone’s wedding dress from the height of a one-story balcony.
I wasn’t ready to give up so easily. I talked with Kaylie, the actual wearer of the wedding dress. And she cheerfully agreed to give me the power to ruin her wedding day AND her beautiful dress solely for my crazy little artistic whim. Kaylie’s the kind of person I love shooting weddings for: beautiful, happy, and willing to really let us unleash the creative genius at almost any cost.
So we launched the dress. We only had to do it once, and came out with a beautiful progression of pictures. The imagination is what makes a picture, but technical execution makes it possible. Enjoy!
Not your average wedding picture
I love to have fun making pictures, both in concept and in fact. This image is a great unity of both. It’s Brendan’s wedding day, and he and his brother Jordan brought their airsoft guns to the studio for a few fun pictures. Oh yeah; we also took a few pictures with the bride and the church. But this was too fun to not share! If you want to know more about shooting people with guns taking pictures of people with guns, check out my previous post here: shinnphoto.com/blog/?p=800.
Goodbye Summer!
Goodbye, Summer – and good riddance! Fall is by far my favorite time of the year, perhaps even more so since it follows the disgusting summer heat of California’s Central Valley. Still, there are a few things to enjoy about summer. This iPhone picture of a Summer Sugar Flower (cotton candy) is from a backyard birthday party that we enjoyed (and didn’t want to leave) this summer. Along with Labor Day, the powers that be have decreed that Starbucks will now carry their fall drink flavors, making me one very happy photographer. Welcome, Fall!
Happy 4th of July!
Happy Independence Day! This weekend we’ll celebrate the founding fathers of our nation declaring our independence from Great Britain. Let’s all enjoy, remember, and celebrate responsibly!

Pipe Dreams
This is an outtake from Brendan Sanford’s session. Brendan and I had a great time enjoying all the cool stuff around his mom’s farm. It was a beautiful morning, and I still want to return sometime with Brendan, who is a photography enthusiast himself, to make some more pictures just for fun.
