Blossom Trail Art Show at Shinn Photo
Reedley High School’s Art Students have put together a great show, and are displaying it in the space next door to the studio, thanks to Veronica Barragan at Country Club Mortgage. We’ll be hosting a reception at the studio on Thursday, with details below. If you’re not able to make it Thursday, at least stop by and see the art in the front window. It’s great stuff, and a wonderful celebration of Spring! The show will be up all month, making Downtown Reedley look just a little bit more swell.

MCC Sale | Fresno Lifestyle Photographer
One of my favorite annual events is the West Coast MCC Relief Sale. It’s an event that raises money for world relief while providing fun activities and traditional Mennonite food. I’ll be honest: aside from interaction with the Mennonite community, the food is my favorite part!
The event is on the campus of Fresno Pacific University, and features an auction, live broom-making demos, and art show (in which I’ve participated for the past few years), and more good, traditional Mennonite food than you can shake a stick at! Liam and I split a particularly marvelous bowl of homemade Huckleberry Ice Cream.
Here’s the Facebook page for the event: West Coast MCC Sale.
Here’s an article about the food on Taste Fresno: Mennonite Munchies.
I’ll post a few pictures here, but if you want to see the rest, you can find them at the Shinn Photo Facebook page!
Reedley High Senior Drama Show at Shinn Photography
The student-written and student-organized Reedley High Senior Drama Show will be at our studio this weekend (Saturday) at 1pm and 5pm, then next Saturday, May 8, at 1pm and 5pm! Admission is free and the show should be hilariously funny. The students are putting a lot of work into the performance, and I can’t wait to see it!

See you there!
Officer Javier Bejar’s Funeral
Reedley lost Officer Javier Bejar the morning of March 1. Today, our community paused to remember Officer Bejar, grieve, and commit his soul to his creator. Here are some images from the proceedings. Captions for each image can be found at flickr.com/photos/shinnphoto.
Winners from the first monthly photo contest!
You guys really blew me away with the range, quality and creativity of your entries into our first monthly photo contest. There were so many good entries that choosing a winner was difficult. I ended up choosing two.
The first winner is Anika Wiebe. Anika, I really enjoyed the story you told. The image in itself could have made for any number of fun stories, but your caption was imaginative, whimsical and fun. That really took the image to the next level. Well done!
“I just couldn’t help myself. Water is my favorite! Stephanie didn’t see it coming, but she kept her balance well; injury was averted. I was excited enough when she decided to wear me that morning, but when I realized there were puddles everywhere… I guess she wasn’t wearing me anymore, I was wearing her…”
The second winner was Stephen Abbas. Stephen’s image is beautiful and a bit haunting. I couldn’t stop looking at it. Far from making the story more explicit, his caption made the story more intriguing. I fired with an ambiguous prompt, and Stephen fired back with an ambiguous entry. Well met, sir!
One last thrill, for an old pair.
There were other great entries, and I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with for this next month’s contest! I’ll be announcing the prompt here on the blog (www.shinnphoto.com/blog) and on our Facebook site (www.facebook.com/shinnphoto). Thanks for playing!
