If you have a digital SLR camera (Nikon D-3000, a Canon Digital Rebel, etc.), this class is for you. It’s focused on using your camera and unlocking it to allow you to make the super-awesome pictures that you see in your mind. We’ll teach you what your camera can and can’t do. Summer Camera Camp 2011 Wrapup | Reedley Photography Classes
We had a great time at Summer Camera Camp this weekend! It was a smaller group of people (6), which gave us more time to deep-dive on questions and take the material at a less-hurried pace.
Anyone who teaches anything will be familiar with this feeling, but I really loved watching the camera campers’ progress from the first to the third day. At first, we all started out holding these mind-numbingly confusing pieces of technology. By the third day, people were asking questions with terms like ‘F/stops’ and ‘shutter speed’ instead of ‘doo-hicky’ and ‘mystery button.’
Two more notes on teaching: Every time we run camera camp, I’m reminded that if you really want to learn something inside and out, you should attempt to teach it to someone. Even though I’ve been a photographer for almost 1o years, I still have to work to have the correct terms and explanations ready at the proper times. Second, teaching photography reminds me how much I really love it! When you do something day in and day out, it can become routine and second-nature. When I watch someone catch on to a principal or technique, I re-capture a little bit of my own photographic passion.
Below are a few photos from the camp. Stay tuned for another round in the winter!

Here Cari gets creative, looking for a new perspective.

We worked on panning and zooming as creative exposure techniques.

We stopped in at Eddie V’s Barber Shop for the ambiance and a piece of bubble gum!

Here’s a picture of the Hotel Burgess, turned into a beautiful flower using nothing but a slow shutter speed and an unsteady hand!

Camera campers work on their depth of field assignment.

Each camera camper gets a guidebook for taking notes and later reference. We also have a few treats for each person!

Winter Camera Camp
We just finished Winter Camera Camp 2011. It was intense; we went through a lot of material in 3 sessions. But we had a great group, had fun getting to know each other, and we all experienced a lot of light bulb moments. In three short days, I saw people start making pictures with their cameras that they would have previously thought impossible. Check out more photos from Camera Camp on our Facebook Page.
Thanks to this session’s camera campers for a fun experience! I look forward to watching you make some great photos in the future!
Camera Camper Focus
I’m happy to welcome Mariah Betancourt to the blog! Mariah attended our last camera camp, and she’s gone on to make some great pictures. You can see more of her work at betancourtbunch.blogspot.com. We still have a few spots available for winter camera camp. If you want to attend, check out the details here: www.shinnphoto.com/blog/?p=786 and give us a call at (559) 643-2072 to reserve your spot. – Andrew
After completing the Shinn Photography camera camp, I feel more confident and comfortable using my camera. The skills I learned at camera camp have allowed me to take my camera out of the automatic mode and choose settings that give me great results. My passion is photography, and the camera camp has helped me take that passion to the next level. Since I am still learning, I love to refer back to the booklet that Andrew gave us during the course. The information presented in the book along with my notes from his lectures have really been useful as I continue to try and improve my photography skills. Thank you Shinn Photography – can’t wait for the next class!
