Here you go, Dad!
Finley and his mommy were visiting Auntie Tara in California last week. I had the pleasure of spending a bit of time one afternoon capturing him here in the studio. I had such a nice time with the ladies and Finley was a trooper! He did such a good job during his session and I’m excited to share his pictures with everyone back home! Enjoy!
Thanks for the opportunity to capture your sweet boy at nine months–it was perfect timing.
Welcome, baby Izaiah!
It has been a pleasure to get to know Walter and Ledree over the last months as we’ve planned Izaiah’s newborn session and shot his session. I enjoyed our time together with their little guy; he is a precious one! We had a fun session and I’m excited to share the favorites with you!
The Miller Family – Newborn Portraits
Shinn Photography photographs a lot of high school seniors but we also do a bit of newborn portrait work as well. I enjoy all that I do behind the scenes as our Production Manager but photographing newborns gives me a chance to get out and be creative! Each family and each child’s story is so unique; I am honored to be a part of sharing the beginning of a child’s story.
In the last couple of years we have had the privilege to photograph both of the Miller’s children as newborns. Lynda, Shelly’s mom, has been at both of the sessions, which is kind of ironic because she lives out-of-state! It was a nice surprise to see her again at Cohen’s session. I’m sure it’s always a blessing to have another set of Grandma hands around when a family welcomes and adjusts to a new little baby.
It is so rewarding to Andrew and I when we are blessed to have a relationships with our clients; we enjoy Scott and Shelly. They are a great couple! They are also great parents and we look forward to watching Parker and Cohen as they grow. It’s so fun to watch them interact with Parker, who is almost two. Scott and Shelly are loving, flexible, caring, attentive, and super involved parents. I can tell their kids mean so much to them! Parker and Cohen are blessed to have such a special Daddy and Mommy!
Here are just a couple of images from Cohen’s newborn session. He is a cutie!
ShinnPhoto loves the Leach family / BK Collection
I love this high key session with Leah and Levi! The relationship between the two children is precious. He is so full of energy and she just sits and watches him. Oh, to be 6 months old again! Enjoy!

People I love
I love people. Who are my favorite people? Usually the people who are with me at any given moment. That’s one thing I love about pictures: it allows me to have the people I love nearby all the time. I have a simple, black-and-white canvas gallery wrap of each of my children next to my desk while I work. While the pictures can’t replace them, they do constantly remind me of their character traits and the reasons I love them so much. My fingers can’t reach them to pinch their little cheeks, but my heart can.
This morning I was out with the Sanchez family, enjoying a crisp, beautiful autumn morning. Nature briefly pulled back her veil for us, and we enjoyed a nice morning playing near brilliant leaves and enjoying family relationships. I like the picture below because it illustrates relationships in two planes: the first and more obvious is cute little Logan playing with grandma. (Yes, Veronica is a grandma, even though she looks too young.) And the second layer is the relationship that is happening in the background: more of a real-life adult-type interaction. This second layer isn’t featured in pictures very often, and indeed in this case it was a bit of an artifact. I knew I was making it, but I’m afraid my subjects weren’t aware they were going to be in the picture. I’m glad it happened, though, because the shared time and space are just as much a testament to a family’s love as the smiling, playful baby. Thanks, Sanchez family, for a fun morning and for letting me into your family relationships!
Too sweet for words
I just LOVE Lisa’s work! She makes the cutest baby pictures. When I look at these photos, I experience the same warm feeling as holding a newborn. That feeling always makes me want to have more little ones of my own!
Enjoy the pictures,
Andrew

Clara
Again today I was on the other side of the portrait gig. There were some really frustrating moments when our kids weren’t doing what they were supposed to do. I guess it’s always easier to be patient when it’s someone else’s kid that’s being difficult. But the photos we have from this one-week-old photo session are very, very dear to me. Enjoy Clara!
New addition to our family
At 2:30 am Saturday morning we welcomed Clara Marie Shinn to our family. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 19.75 inches in length. She’s healthy and Lisa is doing well. We’re back at work this Monday working on orders for people who are giving Shinn Photo portraits as Christmas gifts. Here are a few pictures. Enjoy!
Levi
This morning we had the privilege of meeting little Levi Leach for the first time! Lisa made these images, which capture his new-ness and the love his parents clearly have for him. Thanks, Leach Family!
