Julia and her family love to spend time at the coast, so we scheduled her senior portrait session in Cayucos. Julia’s another young lady whom I’ve had the privilege of watching grow up. She brought along a friend (which is a great idea for senior portraits) and we made pictures late into the evening on the beach. The weather was overcast, which presents all kinds of cool opportunities for making great images.
Antonio isn’t graduating from high school; he’s graduating from college. But that didn’t stop us from having a great time creating graduation photos together! College senior portraits are a great chance to not only capture your interests, but to mark a milestone that represents a big accomplishment. It’s a chance to stand and declare that you’re an adult, and ready to step forward and make your mark on the world!
Antonio and I spent some time around Fresno State, and also near his home in Orange Cove. Congratulations on your accomplishment, Antonio!
Hannah is an artist, and what better place to make pictures of an artist than the LA County Museum of Art?! I really enjoy that area, and so does Hannah. We had a fun session around the outside of the museum.

When I work with high school seniors, I often get the chance to make portraits of the best and the brightest. Celeste certainly fits into that category! She’s a leader, a do-er, the ASB president, the editor of her school yearbook, the Selma Raisin Queen, and an all-around delightful young lady. We went out on a day threatening rain, and found all the sunlight and beauty we needed. Enjoy the pictures!
I happen to live in the prettiest place in the world in the springtime. I’ve been to Boston in the Fall, but I still love Tulare and Fresno counties in the Spring! Our area is known for the blossom trail, which has given its name to a series of wineries, a bed and breakfast, a Café, a bike ride, an insurance company, and even a photo studio!
Even though I have lots of decent blossom photos (like the one we use for our header image over on Google+), I’m still compelled to stop once in a while and make a few more. These two are from our local travels this past weekend. Enjoy!
Lauren was one of our Lucky 13 senior models this year, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know her. She is the second senior from her family whom we’ve had the privilege to photograph, and that relationship has been rich and meaningful for us. It’s such a blessing to get to meet great people and become part of their lives!!
I created this image for a monthly photo pool that I enter with some friends. The idea was to make an image based on a Metallica song. I started out with the concept “Back in Black” before I remembered that it’s an AC/DC song. I had to modify the concept to “Fade to Black”, but that just added to the creative constraints. This video shows the entire process, from setting up to shooting (only one exposure) to the entire digital imaging pipeline from Lightroom through Photoshop. Enjoy!
